This is not just a nice map projected on a globe, it is actually a composite of the day's image, this one is probably a combination of weather sats and older images of the earth. Just the weather images need to be current anyways.
Infrared - temperature
Southern Europe was just as hot as the Northern Sahara. I bet some of that heat was from the forest fires.
I really don't understand this picture, looks like it is the lights from urban areas, but why are there giant bright spots on the ocean. It also looks like the entire coastline of South America is on fire, some sort of gigantic oil spills? They must have altered the image to make it look nice.
